A new footbridge and lifts will be installed at Crowborough station, to provide step-free access across the station.
This will make the station much easier to use for passengers with mobility issues, older people and parents with young children.
The £4.7m project is being delivered as part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme and will begin on the 1 November 2021 with completion in Autumn 2022.
The works include
- The installation of two lifts (16-person capacity) and a new footbridge which will provide an accessible route to and in between platforms
- New tactile paving’s on both platforms at Crowborough Station
- New CCTV cameras
During the works, engineers will construct foundations on the platforms. Following this, the new lift shafts and footbridge will be created off-site and lifted by crane into position during planned line closures. Upon completion of the new footbridge, the existing station footbridge will be dismantled and removed from the station.
Delivering the highest standards of safety is paramount to our work and keeping people safe on and around the railway is at the heart of everything we do. Often, work needs to be carried out while trains aren’t running. However, we always aim to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services.
