Petts Wood Access for All Improvements

As part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme, we are installing four new lifts at Petts Wood Station, to provide step-free access between platforms.

Part of the Government’s nationwide Railway Access for All Strategy, this £10.79 million scheme will make the station much easier to use for passengers with mobility issues.

The works include

  • Installation of four lifts, one serving the station ticket office, two on the station island platforms and the final lift serving the Western Approach entrance.
  • Extending the island platform to accommodate the lifts on the platforms.
  • Installation of new CCTV cameras.

The station will remain open however, to be able to carry out the work we will have to change the way passengers access the station building from Station Square. A temporary scaffold staircase will be installed to access the ticket hall.

Dates and times of work

The work started mid-May 2022 and are scheduled for completion early 2024.

Most of our work will take place Monday to Friday during daytime hours from 07:30 – 18:00. However, there may be some occasions where due to the nature of the work we will have to work overnight or during weekends when the trains are not running.

We will keep you updated as the works progress which will include any other periods where works will be undertaken outside of normal working hours.

How the work will affect journeys

The Access for All project at Petts Wood station will have no direct impact on train services. Any work that we need to do while trains are not running, has been scheduled for times when trains were already planned not to run during line closures of the railway.
