Berrylands Station Upgrade
We’re refurbishing Berrylands station to improve safety and the passenger experience

We’re carrying out essential upgrades at Berrylands to extend the life of the station and improve the experience for passengers travelling via this important suburban hub.
Our work will see the full replacement of Berrylands’ two timber platforms and supporting structures, which date back to the 1930s. While we complete this work the station will temporarily close between Monday 11 May and Late September (inclusive).

What work is taking place?
Berrylands station sits on a five-metre-high embankment with timber platforms that are no longer fit for purpose. As part of this project, we will:
- Replace both platforms
- Widen narrow sections of the platform to improve safety and accessibility
- Install new platform lighting, CCTV, information screens, and help points
- Install provision for new waiting shelters on both platforms
This project will ensure Berrylands continues to serve the local community reliably and safely for years to come.
When is the work taking place?
Preparation works: November – March 2026
This work will include:
- Vegetation clearance
- Utilities diversions
- Ecological mitigations
Main construction works: March – November 2026
This work will include:
- Site enabling works
- Platform demolition
- Piling
- Modular platform installation
How will this work affect me?
Passenger impact
Berrylands station will be closed to passengers from Monday 11 May to Late September 2026, though we will be working on the final parts of the project through to November 2026. Please visit the SWR site for more passenger information:
Disruption you might experience near the station during our works:
- Intermittent footway restrictions on Lower Marsh Lane
- Parking suspensions on Chiltern Drive
- Temporary road closures for construction access
We will work closely with local authorities to minimize disruption and will provide advance notice of any traffic changes.
Construction noise
To complete these works, there will be construction noise that can be heard inside the homes of local residents. We will be in contact to let them know the details of this work.
Platform Demolition
Demolition of the existing platform will be taking place during the night. This will involve general construction noise and the use of large machinery, including long reach excavators. These machines will move along the lower embankment as they dismantle and remove the platform.
Piling
To complete this work, we need to carry out piling, which involves driving large steel “pegs” into the ground. Please see the below video for demonstration of what piling is.
This will generate a large amount of noise that will be audible in your homes. The types of noise you can expect to hear are; vibratory piling, metal-on-metal impacts, machinery engine noise, and material movement. Large machinery, including long‑reach excavators will operate from the lower embankment throughout the works for the piling works.
We will be carrying out piling work on the dates below, between 08:00am and 20:00pm.
- Monday 25 to Sunday 31 May
- Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 June
This type of work is noisy and it is likely you will hear this in your homes if you live nearby.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances that require extended working hours, for example objects in the embankment making it more difficult to pile, works may need to continue up to 24 hours per day to safely complete critical activities.
Advance notice will be issued to the Local Authority and residents via our newsletter (details at bottom of letter) before any extended or overnight working takes place.
All work and noise mitigation has been reviewed and agreed with the local authority.
Keeping you informed
We’re committed to keeping passengers, residents and road users informed throughout our works. Updates will be regularly posted on this webpage.
Lineside neighbors closest to the works will receive letters in advance with full details of activity and any likely impacts. While some noise and disruption is expected, we will work hard to minimise this wherever possible.
Once alternative travel options have been confirmed we will share this promptly to passengers.
Why is the work needed?
Berrylands station is over 90 years old. While some works have been carried out over the years, including a platform extension in 2014, the structure is coming to the end of its operational life.
This upgrade will:
- Enhance the passenger experience with better lighting and information
- Extend the life of the station for the next generation of users
- Improve safety through modern materials and wider platforms
