Petts Wood station footbridge refurbishment

We have carried out vital refurbishment work on the footbridge at Petts Wood station to ensure it remains safe, reliable, and fit for the future

The footbridge has largely been in place since 1946, with some parts of the structure dating from as far back as 1926. It re-opened after refurbishment on Monday 18 May 2026.

What did we do?

To keep the footbridge safe and open for passengers we will:

  • replaced the deck of the footbridge
  • strengthened the structure
  • repaired drainage
  • repaired the soffits, stairs and treads
  • installed new tactile paving to platform and landings
  • high pressure water jetted the structure and re-painted the footbridge
  • upgraded the wiring and lighting to the station building and all platforms.

To minimise disruption and keep passengers moving, the work was carried out in carefully planned phases.

We would like to thank passengers for their patience while this essential work was carried out and apologise for the disruption caused.
