Step Free Access for East Grinstead station

East Grinstead Station to become step-free in Autumn 2022

We are managing and delivering station accessibility enhancements as part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme between November 2021 through to completion in Autumn 2022.

Platform at East Grinstead station

East Grinstead station will be receiving a new footbridge and new lifts, providing step free access for the first time. Tactile pavement will also be installed along both platforms to improve use for passengers with visual impairment.

The works include

  • The installation of two lifts (16-person capacity) and a new footbridge which will provide an accessible route to and in between platforms
  • New tactile paving on both platforms
  • New CCTV cameras.
  • The investment of £4.6m at East Grinstead will make the station much easier to use for passengers with accessibility needs. During the work, engineers will be constructing foundations on the platforms. New lift shafts and the footbridge will be created off-site and lifted by crane into position during planned line closures.

The new footbridge, lifts and stair structure is of a high-quality design which will be in keeping with the station design and surrounding landscape. On completion of the new footbridge, engineers will dismantle the existing station footbridge and remove it from the station.
