From January 2022, Network Rail High Speed will start a three-year project to renew our lifts, escalators and travellators to make moving through our stations easier and safer for our passengers.
In Summer 2021, Network Rail (High Speed) awarded a contract to Schindler to renew 22 lifts, escalators and travellators assets across the three stations.
Between January 2022 and May 2024, work will be carried out at the three Network Rail (High Speed) stations – London St. Pancras International, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet International – to refurbish lifts, escalators, and travellators. This will maintain their future reliability for people passing through. The work has been carefully planned to ensure our passengers can still access all public areas and platforms and get where they need to go.
St. Pancras International has four main rail services from the station – Eurostar, East Midlands Railway, Southeastern and Thameslink, all of which will remain accessible.
Duration of Work
- Escalators will be taken out of service for a duration of circa 3 months.
- Lifts and travellator will be taken out of service for a duration of circa 4 months.

This project will extend the lifespan of the existing escalators, lifts and travellators at all three stations by at least 10 years, ensuring the stations remain fully accessible and passengers enjoy a positive experience on their travels.

Stratford International Station
At Stratford station there are 7 lift and 6 escalators, it is planned to renew 3 escalators and 1 lift to ensure a network of reliable and efficient escalators.
The 3 escalators being renewed at Stratford are:
- Escalator serving south-eastern platforms 2 & 3
- Escalator serving platform 1 – emergency platform (currently not in use)
- Escalator serving south-eastern platforms 2 & 3 from Westfield shopping centre
The 1 lift being renewed at Stratford is:
- Lift serving south-eastern platforms 2 & 3

Ebbsfleet International Station
At Ebbsfleet station there are 4 escalators and 5 lifts, it is planned to renew 2 escalators to ensure a network of reliable and efficient escalators.
The 2 escalators being renewed at Ebbsfleet are:
- Escalator serving Eurostar platform 4
- Escalator serving south-eastern platforms 3

St Pancras International Station
In St Pancras International station there are 19 lifts, 14 escalators and 13 travellators. We are planning to renew 8 escalators, 7 lifts and 1 travellator to ensure a network of reliable and efficient escalators.
The 8 escalators being renewed at St Pancras are:
- Two main concourse down escalators serving East Midland Railway platforms 1–4
- Two main concourse up escalators serving East Midland Railway platforms 1–4
- Four escalator serving South-eastern platforms 11-13.
The 7 lift being renewed at St Pancras are:
- Eurostar departure lounge Lift serving Eurostar platforms 5–6
- Eurostar departure lounge Lift serving Eurostar platforms 7–8
- Eurostar departure lounge Lift serving Eurostar platforms 9–10
- Main concourse Lift serving East Midland Railway platforms 1–4
- Eastern entrance Lift serving South-eastern platforms 11-13
- Staff / Goods lift serving East Midlands Railway platforms 1-2
- Staff / Goods lift serving South-eastern platforms 11-12
The 1 travellator being renewed at St Pancras is:
- Eurostar departure lounge travellator serving Eurostar platforms 5–6
