Bexley station Access for All Scheme

As part of the Department for Transport nationwide Railway access for all strategy, we are installing a new footbridge and lifts at Bexley Station.

In partnership with the DfT, this £6m project will provide an accessible route to and in between platforms. The work began in February 2023 and is expected to be completed in late Spring of 2024.

What work is taking place?

The work includes

  • Installation of a new footbridge and two lifts with a 16-person capacity
  • Widening of platform 1 to accommodate the lift on the platform
  • New CCTV cameras

The new footbridge is located on both platforms behind the existing subway.

When is the work taking place?

Work began on Monday 20 February 2023 and the majority of work will take place Mondays to Fridays during daylight hours from 07:30 – 18:00, however there may be some occasions where work will take place overnight or during weekends when trains are not running.

Over the last weekend in July 2023, the installation of the lifts and staircases was completed. Works are expected to be completed in late Spring 2024.

How will this work affect me?

Residents and stakeholders will be updated as the work progresses and if additional works need to be undertaken outside of normal working hours.

During the project we will be suspending parking spaces at the lower section of the car park and adjacent to the car garage, rear of the station for the duration of the project. The station will remain open throughout and hoarding will be installed on both platforms to segregate our works from commuters.

There will be some construction traffic during the main works. To get a new power supply to the station there may be some traffic management installed through the high street by UKPN.
