We are lengthening platforms at key stations on the Midland Main Line to accommodate longer trains with more seats.

The London to Corby longer platforms project will create the capacity to meet forecast passenger growth and reduce overcrowding.

The stations covered within the project are Bedford, Wellingborough, KetteringCorby, and Market Harborough. The station platform lengths will increase to 240m to cater for longer trains.

Improved infrastructure at the stations will also resolve the existing issues of safety/inconvenience arising from having short platforms and long trains.

Track and platform alignment improvements at the stations will provide enhanced clearance and create more flexible routes for freight services. Stations will be upgraded to W12 gauge clearance allowing the movement of larger shipping containers by freight operating companies. W12 gauge clearance accommodates 9’6” freight containers on standard height wagons.
