Staines Iron Bridge refurbishment

We’re refurbishing The Iron Bridge on Staines High Street to ensure it can support the railway for years to come.

The Iron Bridge supports the railway between Staines and Wraysbury on the line to Windsor & Eton Riverside, crossing the A308 road and two footpaths.

The timber supports for the track are approaching the end of their operational life and need to be replaced. The headroom of the bridge also needs to be improved to cut down on instances of large vehicles striking the structure.

Between Tuesday 8 February and Friday 29 April 2022 engineers will replace the metallic superstructure, the timber supports and ballasted deck of the bridge.

Road closures

To complete this vital work, two road closures will be required.

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March there will be a full road closure of the A308 while engineers work on supporting structures for the bridge.

This will be followed by a full road closure, for 19 days, from Monday 21 March to Friday 8 April 2022.

Street furniture will be removed to allow a crane to deliver and install the new deck for the bridge. When the new deck is in place, street furniture will be reinstated.

The maps below detail the road closure (in red) and pedestrian diversion (yellow).

A diversionary route of around 3.3 miles has been planned which will divert road traffic along the A30, around the roundabout for the M25 motorway and then along Wraysbury Road.

The map below shows the diversion route for vehicles via the A30 and B376.
