Wixams new station

We’re working with the Department for Transport (DfT) on developing plans for a new station at Wixams in Bedfordshire

Project timeline

A previous development for a smaller station at Wixams has been brought to a close and we are discussing plans for a larger station with the Department for Transport, the local council and other stakeholders.

This webpage will be updated once we have more detail to share.

What work is taking place?

We are currently in discussions with the Department for Transport to determine the scope, scale and funding for a new station at Wixams in Bedfordshire.

We will share further details about procurement and other timescales once they have been confirmed.

How will this work affect me?

The work originally begun for the smaller station has been brought to a safe and controlled stop.

Designs for the larger station are not yet agreed.

Site survey work is expected in 2026 but main work is not expected to restart until 2027.

We will hold engagement events with residents and other stakeholders where appropriate and we will write to residents in advance to inform them of any work we expect to be disruptive.

Why is the work needed?

A new station at Wixams will improve rail connectivity for local residents.

It will also support the planned Universal theme park development announced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

For more information and updates on the Universal development go to their web page.

Stay up to date – sign up for digital notifications

We will be sending updates to neighbours on work near the station primarily by email. If you live near the station site and you wish to stay up to date on work at the station then please sign up for digital notifications.

For public events and major work, such as piling, we will still send letters to those who have not signed up for digital notifications. Notifications for all other work will be digital only. This is to ensure we are spending taxpayers money efficiently by minimising the cost of sending letters and to minimise the impact on the environment.
