Upgrades to Belmont station
We are working to extend the platform and upgrade the signalling to increase the number of trains services at Belmont station
Services will increase from two trains per hour to four trains per hour. This will provide improved access for the local community and the development of the London Cancer Hub.

Project timeline
Work will begin in September 2026 with completion of the platform extension by January 2027 and our signalling upgrades by October 2027. We expect new services from December 2027.
What work is taking place?
We will:
- Extend the platform by 45 metre to support longer 10 car trains and more frequent services. Increasing train frequency from two trains per hour to four trains per hour by extending London Victoria to West Croydon train services.
- Improvements to the signalling will help us run increased services and allow a turnback facility at the station.
- Install new CCTV and lighting on the new platform.
- Make adjustments to the existing platform to ensure the platform is compliant to gauging standards for train carriages.
How will this work affect me?
Temporary disruption may occur during engineering works, but passengers will benefit from more frequent and reliable services at Belmont station once the works are complete.
Why is the work needed?
The project will significantly improve access for the surrounding community and to the London Cancer Hub. It will deliver modern, resilient infrastructure that supports the long-term transport needs of the nearby community in Sutton. It will relieve pressure on existing services and improve journey frequency for residents and support major growth of the London Cancer Hub with improved public transport connections.
The design work for the platform extension and signalling is being funded by Sutton Council who are also funding improvements to the road outside the station.
