Clapham Junction footbridge refurbishment

Clapham Junction footbridge to be modernised to last for years to come

The timber decking on the walkway of Clapham Junction footbridge

What’s happening?

From 23 March 2026 until November 2027, we’re modernising the bridge between the platforms at Clapham Junction.

So that the footbridge can remain open and services aren’t disrupted, engineers will work section by section and while work is taking place, space on the bridge will be reduced.

Why is the work needed?

The timber foot deck on the walkway is old and needs modernising with hard wearing glass reinforced plastic to create a more robust structure that will last for many years to come.

As well as replacing the foot deck engineers will be installing a scaffold crash deck to the underside of the footbridge so that we can continue to work on the footbridge from beneath whilst trains are running and strengthen the structure itself.

Repairs will also be carried out on the roof, glazing and gutters will also be replaced

What to expect?

Platforms can be accessed as normal. At peak times you may experience congestion, Marshalls will be on hand to help with pedestrian flow.

Please listen out for station announcements and follow signage.

Please allow extra time for your journey, especially if you are catching a train. At peak times please allow an extra 10 minutes.

Check before you travel

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to journeys. We thank you for your patience as we carry out improvements to your station.
