Wessex Access for All schemes
We will be completing multiple Access for All projects across the region.
The Access for All programme is a £350 million scheme to provide an obstacle free, accessible route to and between station platforms.
Why is this work needed?
We are working in partnership with the Department for Transport, South Western Railway and local councils to make it easier for everyone to use our stations, whether that be for visiting friends and family, getting to work or popping to the shops.
By allowing everyone to use the railway, we can decrease car journeys, ease congestion and reduce carbon emissions. Our work will also modernise key station infrastructure for future passenger use.
Below you will find a list of the current planned upgrades, this page is regularly updated so please check back in to see how we are getting on.

Barnes
The Barnes station accessible footbridge officially opened on Friday 7 February 2025.
The £8.3 million scheme saw the installation of new lifts, staircases and a footbridge to serve each of the outside platforms, as well as the central island platform, meaning the station has step-free routes to and from each platform for the first time.
Other upgrades included refreshing the station lighting and installing CCTV, helping customers feel safer and more comfortable while travelling, particularly at night.
Isleworth
We officially opened a new accessible footbridge in Isleworth on Friday 26 July 2024.
The station now boasts two new lifts either side of the raised platforms, making use of the existing subway, thanks to a £1m investment from Hounslow Council and funding from the Department for Transport’s (DfT).
Motspur Park
Motspur Park station accessibility upgrades officially opened on Friday 31 January 2025.
We collaborated with South Western Railway (SWR) and the London Borough of Merton Council to deliver the enhancements, with the Council making a £690,000 contribution towards the £11.4 million scheme.
A new covered footbridge has replaced the existing structure, providing step-free access via lifts or stairs to the central platform from both sides of the station. New lighting and security cameras have also been installed on and around the lifts and bridge. The station also has a new waiting room, accessible toilet and ticket office.
Stoneleigh
The Stoneleigh station accessible footbridge was officially opened on Friday 25 April 2025, following the completion of the £9.1 million scheme. Network Rail worked with SWR and Epsom & Ewell Borough Council to deliver the enhancements with the Council providing £500,000 to the project.
A new covered footbridge replaces the existing structure at Stoneleigh station, providing full access via lifts or stairs to the central platform from both sides of the station. New lighting and security cameras have also been installed on and around the lifts and bridge and the existing bridge structure will be removed, with the ticket office sited on the central island platform.
Teddington
Teddington has become the latest station on Network Rail’s Wessex route to become step free, following the completion of a £5.4m investment to improve accessibility. New lifts, installed either side of the existing footbridge, have been installed to allow full access the Victoria Road and Station Road entrances.
These improvements will allow passengers connecting between the Shepperton branch and the line heading to Twickenham and Richmond to make a step free interchange. Network Rail has been working closely with South Western Railway (SWR) and the London Borough of Richmond to deliver the project. The lifts were formally opened on Friday 23rd May 2025.
Walton on Thames
The new accessible footbridge was opened on Friday 30 August 2024.
This £6m programme of work began in September 2022 and included a range of improvements including a new bridge, lifts and staircases, plus the widening of platform one and new CCTV cameras to provide extra security.
Wandsworth Town
Summary
Three new lifts will be built at the station, providing full access via lifts or stairs to all four platforms. New lighting and security cameras will be installed in and around the lifts.
An amendment to the approved planning application is due to be submitted to the council to reflect minor changes to the size of the second entrance.
