Renewing the lifts at Sutton station

We have renewed the three lifts at Sutton station

What work took place?

As part of our investment programme to improve stations throughout the Sussex route, we renewed the lifts at Sutton station. Sutton has three lifts which are located on platforms 1, 2/3 and 4.

The work ran from June 2025 and completed in October 2025. During the works, the station remained open to passengers.

When did the work take place?

The work began on 16 June 2025 and completed in October 2025.

Why was the work needed?

The work was needed as the previous lifts were in use since 2001 and were becoming increasingly unreliable.

All three lifts were taken out of service at the same time as replacing all the lifts simultaneously, rather than individually, meant engineers were able to complete the work significantly quicker, so passengers benefitted from the new, more reliable lifts sooner.

We would like to thank passengers for their patience and kind cooperation while we improved the lifts and we apologise for any inconvenience this caused, especially for those who needed step free access.

Thank you for bearing with us while we worked to give you more reliable lifts and a smoother journey.
