Purple Light Up

On the 3 December 2018, International Day of Disabled Persons, we are celebrating the positive contribution of disabled people by turning Network Rail purple.

Over 1 billion people in the world have some form of health condition or impairment. That's 1 in 7 of us.

To show our commitment to creating a more equal, safe and accessible environment for disabled passengers and colleagues, we are taking part in the #PurpleLightUp.

#PurpleLightUp is a simple, powerful declaration of solidarity by, and with, disabled people.

CanDo, Network Rail’s disabled staff support network, has led our involvement with the international #PurpleLightUp campaign.

Network Rail, together with the rail industry, is turning purple - the international colour of disability - in a range of creative ways to celebrate the economic and leadership contribution of disabled employees.

What are we doing?

By taking part in #PurpleLightUp on the International Day of Disabled Persons, we want to play our part in promoting an understanding of disability issues and show our commitment to creating a more equal, safe and accessible environment for disabled passengers and colleagues.

Some of our biggest and busiest stations are being lit up purple on the day, and we'll be tweeting the purple sights and sounds under the hashtag #PurpleLightUp - so be sure to follow us on Twitter to see what we're doing!
