Built Environment Accessibility Panel

The Built Environment Accessibility Panel (BEAP) is an independent panel of accessibility experts who help us create inclusive and accessible railway environments.

The panel provides us with expert advice about making built environments accessible. This helps us to improve our customers’ experience, promote inclusive design and meet the needs of customers with disabilities.

The voluntary panel is made up of passengers with lived experience of disability and accessibility specialists. They provide valuable knowledge, lived experience and advice for applying inclusive design. The panel supports us to deliver an inclusive and accessible railway for all.

Over the past 10 years, BEAP has supported more than 400 rail projects, helping teams create stations, depots, offices, lineside buildings and external spaces that meet the needs of rail users.

The panel meets every month to review projects, work with teams to identify potential barriers to accessibility and provide practical advice to make rail travel more accessible.

Membership is voluntary and the panel meets every month at venues across the country.
