Berrylands Station Upgrade

We’re refurbishing Berrylands station to improve safety and the passenger experience

We’re carrying out essential upgrades at Berrylands to extend the life of the station and improve the experience for passengers travelling via this important suburban hub.

Our work will see the full refurbishment of Berrylands two timber platforms and supporting structures, which date back to the 1930s. While we complete this work the station will temporarily close between Monday 11 May and Sunday 23rd August 2026.

What work is taking place?

Berrylands station sits on a five-metre-high embankment with timber platforms that are no longer fit for purpose. As part of this project, we will:

  • Replace both platforms
  • Widen narrow sections of the platform to improve safety and accessibility
  • Install new platform lighting, CCTV, information screens, and help points
  • Replace landing areas and staircase enclosures with new steelwork and floors
  • Install provision for new waiting shelters on both platforms

This project will ensure Berrylands continues to serve the local community reliably and safely for years to come.

When is the work taking place?

Preparation works: November – March 2026

This work will include:

  • Vegetation clearance
  • Utilities diversions
  • Ecological mitigations

Main construction works: March – November 2026

This work will include:

  • Site enabling works
  • Platform demolition
  • Piling
  • Modular platform installation
  • Staircase works

How will this work affect me?

Berrylands station will be closed to passengers from Monday 11 May to Sunday 23 August 2026, though we will be working on the final parts of the project through to November 2026. During the station closure, passengers will need to make alternative travel arrangement which might include using nearby Surbiton or New Malden stations or the K2 bus.

Alternative travel options will be confirmed closer to the start of our works.

Disruption you might experience near the station during our works:

  • Intermittent footway restrictions on Lower Marsh Lane
  • Parking suspensions on Chiltern Drive
  • Temporary road closures for construction access

We will work closely with local authorities to minimize disruption and will provide advance notice of any traffic changes.

Keeping you informed

We’re committed to keeping passengers, residents and road users informed throughout our works. Updates will be regularly posted on this webpage.

Lineside neighbors closest to the works will receive letters in advance with full details of activity and any likely impacts. While some noise and disruption is expected, we will work hard to minimize this wherever possible.

Once alternative travel options have been confirmed we will share this promptly to passengers.

Why is the work needed?

Berrylands station is over 90 years old. While some works have been carried out over the years, including a platform extension in 2014, the structure is coming to the end of its operational life.

This upgrade will:

  • Enhance the passenger experience with better lighting and information
  • Extend the life of the station for the next generation of users
  • Improve safety through modern materials and wider platforms
