Improving our stations

Your journey begins and ends in the station.

That’s why it’s important to us to make sure that we’re doing all we can to make journeys more pleasant and more comfortable for the millions of journeys that start or finish in our managed stations.

We’re paying attention to the small details, as well as the larger scale improvements that add up to deliver a better experience.

Our 20 managed stations – including Birmingham New StreetManchester PiccadillyEdinburgh WaverleyGlasgow CentralLeedsBristol Temple Meads and 11 in London – are Britain’s busiest and biggest stations.

More comfort

We’ve listened to passengers, making sure there are more places to take a seat whilst waiting for a train. We’re adding more seats across our stations, and improving existing seating too.

We’ve stopped charging passengers to go to the loo, and we’ve made sure that there are free water fountains on every concourse, ensuring passengers can both relieve, and refill – for free.

More choice in food, drink and retail

We know that stations are no longer simply places to travel through. They’re places to meet, eat, shop and socialise. We want our stations to be recognised as best in class, modern travel facilities, that simplify the lives of customers and add to the communities around them.

We’re working with 150 brands to create places where all our passengers and station users can enjoy unique retail and restaurant experiences in exciting, contemporary surroundings.

Wi-Fi

We want you to stay connected between your connections.

That’s why we’ve announced our plan for free, fast and secure wi-fi in all our stations.

The new service will offer seamless connectivity and single sign-on at all Network Rail stations, automatically connecting passengers to WiFi across Network Rail’s 20-strong station network from Spring 2020.

Polite and attentive staff

A friendly face can make a world of difference on your travels.

So we’re making sure that our in-station teams are trained to provide first class assistance and information to all our passengers.

We’re working in unison with colleagues from train operators too, and we’re all united in our commitment to provide you with the right support and information to get you to your destination quickly and with minimal fuss.

Together we can end domestic abuse
