Shortlands station Access for All improvements

We have installed three new lifts and a new footbridge at Shortlands station, to provide step-free access between platforms. 

As part of the Department for Transport’s nationwide Railway Access for All strategy, we installed a new footbridge and three new lifts (one on each platform and one behind the ticket hall) at Shortlands station to provide an accessible route to and in between platforms.

Works began in January 2024 and were completed in April 2025.

What work took place? 

The work included: 

  • Installation of a new footbridge  
  • Installation of three new lifts and lift shafts 
  • Installation of a new emergency staircase 
  • Installation of new CCTV cameras and lighting 

When did the work take place?

Work began in January 2024 and the majority of work took place from Monday to Friday during daylight hours from 07:30 – 18:00 and did not affect train services. The work was completed in April 2025.
