New platforms at South Bermondsey station
Over Christmas 2025 and the New Year, we installed new platforms at South Bermondsey station

What work took place?
South Bermondsey station was closed as the platforms were rebuilt.
The work involved removing the old platforms and building new platforms on both sides of the station, strengthening the platform, surfacing work, upgrading the drainage and repairing the concrete foundations that support the platforms.
The work completed involved using screw piling to create the new foundations for the platforms. This method is faster, more efficient and quieter than other methods of piling and causes the least disruption. The piles are made of steel and are twisted into the ground.
Why was the work needed?
The old platforms dated back to the 1970s, when the original 1928 wooden platforms were replaced with a precast concrete trestle construction which was in a poor state.
The works will extend the life of the platform and make sure it remains safe for the public to use.
