Rail industry introduces huge new timetable with thousands of extra services
Yesterday saw the railway industry introduce its new summer timetable – the biggest yet seen with over four million changes and improvements made.
The new timetable brings into operation thousands of new services across the country benefitting hundreds of thousands of passengers – the culmination of years of investment in new infrastructure and new trains that forms part of the Railway Upgrade Plan – a five-year investment programme set to generate £85billion in economic benefit across the country.
Retiming so many services across a weekend is a huge operational challenge and as drivers and signallers adjust to new patterns of work, there may be some disruption to services as the new ways of working, new stopping patterns, new train depots and new rolling stock, bed in.
Passengers too will need to adjust to different train times as a result of the changes. We therefore urge people to check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk
