Our Property scheme for graduates
Who you are
You’re an independent thinker with a passion for property. You have the ability to communicate to a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Your excellent time management skills will enable you to get the best out of your work placements and ensure you achieve all the competency levels required by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
How long is the scheme?
Where you’ll be based
London, Scotland and Bristol.
What you’ll be doing
Through a series of rotational placements, you’ll be working as a surveyor to secure land and access rights for a whole range of operational projects across the country: from temporary requirements for site compounds, project offices, access points, to more permanent requirements where the land supports new infrastructure. You’ll be working closely with colleagues to review and assess options and deliver results.
You’ll be responsible for securing tenants for major new investment schemes, against challenging financial targets. You’ll have the opportunity to lead on the sale or disposal of surplus land to help prospective new tenants find suitable accommodation or help us deliver land in line with government housing targets. You may also be required to search for new uses for redundant railway accommodation, such as accommodation for charities. You’ll help to give buildings with no future a new lease of life while helping to deliver much needed residential units.
2:2 in a Commercial Real Estate or Planning & Development degree which is accredited for the commercial property route of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
What professional qualifications could you gain?
Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
What opportunities are available at the end of the scheme?
At the end of the scheme you will be able to further progress by applying for roles within development, retail, commercial estates or property services as a surveyor, development surveyor, portfolio surveyor, portfolio manager or asset manager. Many graduates go on to achieve promotion to senior roles within the department.
Why you should choose this scheme
This is the only graduate scheme within Network Rail that is aimed at the professional surveyor.
You’ll be exposed to many different areas of Property and experience functions you may not have realised existed at Network Rail.
From day one we will recognise, develop and promote your talent to enable you to become one of our future senior leaders. You’ll receive support from current and former graduates, senior surveyors, managers and RICS assessors across all areas of property.
At Network Rail, we want to help you achieve your full potential. As part of that, we will provide the investment you need to follow the professional competency pathway for commercial property (APC).
Further details can be found on the RICS website.
Quite simply, the scheme is broad, the work is diverse and the teams are friendly. I was also enticed by the fact that Network Rail has been ranked yet again within the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers. These are qualities any graduate should look for!
