Environment and Sustainable Development Year in Industry placement

Reducing environmental impacts matters

If looking at how we care for our natural environment matters to you.

As one of the nation’s largest users of energy, and the fourth largest landowner in Britain, we’re acutely aware of the impact we have on the environment. Our Environment and Sustainable Development placement students will play a part in enabling us to take action to mitigate and improve that impact. You’ll be supported by your mentors and colleagues alike to help us tackle one of the most important issues facing our organisation, and the world at large, in modern times.

  • You’ll receive a salary of £17,000 pro rata
  • The scheme lasts for one year
  • Placement opportunities available in Milton Keynes

Who you are matters

We look for people who have strong project – and people – management skills. Those who are great at speaking and writing, and can use these skills to influence others when it’s time to make decisions. You might already have experience managing sustainability issues, but you’ll definitely have a genuine passion for the environment around us, and a desire to find ways we can treat it better. You’ll be comfortable using a range of Microsoft Office applications, and be as capable of creating attractive posters and fliers as you are analysing data.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a part in helping us manage sustainability risks, and find opportunities to implement responsible business practices across the organisation. You’ll also support communities, and manage the reputation of our business.

Expect to take on tasks such as:

  • Researching and writing case studies and guidance notes.
  • Making reports based on incidents or best practice.
  • Supporting our awareness activities.
  • Offering technical support.
  • Collecting and analysing data.

What you’ll get out of it

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means throughout your placement we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues, and receive coaching from senior staff. And of course, you’ll gain valuable practical experience of how reducing environmental impact is approached by national-scale commercial organisations.
