Safety education
Rail safety education and awareness can keep our young people safe on and around the railway.
Discover a range of free, age-targeted, interactive resources and classroom activities that support the curriculum requirements for rail safety and educate children on the dangers of the railway on our Switched On site.
Switched On teaches pupils to be aware of risky behaviour and develop hazard-spotting skills.
The activities are divided into three age groups:
- Switched On Travels with Suzi (ages 3-6)
- Switched On for every journey (ages 7-11)
- Living Switched On (ages 12-16)

Community safety managers
We have designated community safety managers in each of our regional areas, whose role it is to work with local communities to promote safety on and around the railway.
The Community Safety Managers can support your delivery of rail safety education through a school visit. We prioritise visits to those where incidents involving young people are most prevalent. If you are interested in a school visit you can contact us.
