Industrial action

Planned strike action

Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) union has announced strike action on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August. This action is co-ordinated across Network Rail and other train operating companies.

The TSSA and Unite unions will also be striking on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August.

Travel information

Due to industrial action, you will experience disruption to your rail journey. You should plan ahead and only travel if absolutely necessary. There will be a special timetable in operation on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August across England, Scotland and Wales and some parts of the country will have no rail services.

Timetable changes

Only about 20% of Britain’s rail network will be open on strike days with a very limited service running on lines that will only be open from around 07:30 to 18:30. On the days that follow strike action (Friday 19 August and Sunday 21 August), you should also expect disruption due to the knock-on impact of industrial action on shift patterns.

There will also be disruption on Friday 19 August due to a strike on the London Underground.

Check before you travel

Plan ahead and only travel if absolutely necessary. You can check your journey by visiting National Rail or your train operating company’s website.
