Where you'll be based
When is the placement?
June to August 2020 for 10 weeks.
What you'll be doing
Faced with a variety of unique and exciting mechanical engineering challenges, you’ll develop skills in a range of specialisms – from power distribution, plant, traction and rolling stock to asset management and infrastructure engineering. Through four rotational placements you’ll gain a broad perspective of the railway and learn all about the processes, products and systems that make it function.
You might be involved with rejuvenating and servicing current infrastructure, or delivering ambitious improvements to track equipment.
Why you should choose this placement
A short-term placement offers a unique opportunity to experience many parts of the business, and make a contribution from day one. The scheme is run by former graduates who act as coaches and mentors to our new recruits. There are only a small number of summer placements available which means, if you’re successful, you’ll be highly visible across the function. Many students go on to make successful applications to the graduate scheme and now hold senior positions within the team.
You must be in your penultimate year of university and on course to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in an Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) accredited degree.
