A cornerstone for development of our company
The Network Rail Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme is a cornerstone for the future development of our company. Join us and benefit from a training and development programme that will equip you to become the technician, team leader, supervisor, manager and engineer of the future.
A workforce for the future
As the use of technology increases, and we introduce new and innovative methods of work, we will need a workforce with a strong underpinning knowledge of engineering principles, who are highly motivated, flexible and who by instinct apply our lifesaving rules and personify the Network Rail behaviours.
Year one of the apprenticeship scheme focuses on:
- understanding and applying basic engineering principles
- health and safety awareness
- personal and life skills development
- preparing for the depot-based learning experience.
The first year focuses on developing the individual, including the Network Rail behaviours and our lifesaving rules, and giving the apprentices the skills and understanding of first principles in engineering, which they can apply in years two and three, as they work towards achieving competence in their chosen technical discipline.
The training facilities
Westwood has bespoke engineering training equipment to meet the requirements of the BTEC and NVQ qualifications that form an integral part of the programme. The mechanical and electrical workshops have been specifically fitted out to meet all the academic requirements and deliver a world class engineering training programme.
Our apprentices also have access to the leadership and management training facilities at Westwood which they will utilise to complete the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) level 2 programme.
About the scheme
Our three-year scheme includes a residential stay at Westwood, our national training centre in the Midlands, and more than two years' hands-on experience at a local depot.
