This page explains the work we'll be doing in Gloucestershire and when it's due to take place.
The Ocean bridge, Stonehouse
We are replacing the railway bridge at The Ocean, Stonehouse, on behalf of the Cotswold Canals Connected Project as part of its plans to restore four miles of canal between Stonehouse and Saul Junction.
To date, we have built a compound close to the site where we have cast the concrete units that will make up the new bridge. We’ve also been carrying out ground investigation studies in the canal and removed overhanging vegetation to allow safe access for a crane to lift in the new bridge. To safely install it, we'll need to drain a section of the canal between The Ocean Swing Bridge and The Narrows. This is due to take place in late autumn 2021, when the bird-nesting season is over.
We plan to install the new bridge in late December and refill the canal when the work is complete.
