We're working to upgrade all the lifts at Clapham Junction station from November 2021 to April 2022.

The much-needed work will improve reliability for passengers for years to come. Work will start on Monday 1 November, and to minimise the impact on passengers, only one lift will be out of service at a time. The works are expected to be completed by Friday 08 April 2022.

Delivering the project by working on one lift at a time, over 12 consecutive days, means we are minimising disruption to passengers, as only one lift will be out of service for passengers.

Why are we doing this work?

The lifts at Clapham Junction have recorded a high number of faults and failures. This has caused the lifts to be taken out of service on numerous occasions, having a negative impact on passengers.

Advice for travellers

Passengers who require step-free access at Clapham Junction are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

What if I have heavy luggage?

We have additional staff on hand at the affected lift, to help those with heavy luggage on the stairs leading to all platforms.

What if I can’t use the stairs?

Passengers who require step-free access should contact the company whose service they are travelling on to arrange alternative journey arrangements.

For all other journeys, please contact South Western Railway.

Step-free access is still available to Platform 1 and 2 for Arriva Rail London trains. Access is via Brighton Yard entrance whilst Grant Road lift is out of service and via Grant Road entrance when Platform 1 and 2 lift is out of service.
