We've upgraded the railway between Chester and Wrexham, unlocking capacity and making it more resilient and reliable for passengers
Funded by Welsh Government, this major rail enhancement delivered five miles of track doubling between Wrexham and Chester. This upgrade work unlocks the potential for more frequent services and shorter journey times between Cardiff and Holyhead, subject to additional fleet being made available and limited-stop services being specified in the future. We also upgraded four level crossings at Green Lane, Balderton, Pulford and Broad Oak, to full barrier crossings with safer, state-of-the-art obstacle detection systems.
This work was completed during spring 2017.
