We've been commissioned by the Welsh Government to upgrade the railway between Chester and Wrexham, making it more resilient and reliable for passengers.
The North/South Wales enhancement scheme will unlock the potential for more frequent services and shorter journey times between Cardiff and Holyhead in the future. This is subject to additional fleet being made available and limited-stop services being specified in future franchise agreements.
We have already doubled 5.5 miles of track between Wrexham and Chester. During the final commissioning phase we will upgrade four level crossings at Green Lane, Balderton, Pulford and Broad Oak to full barrier crossings with safer, state-of-the-art obstacle detection systems.
Work began in June 2014 and will be completed during spring 2017.
