This Autumn we are upgrading the railway between Barnham, Chichester and Havant

Following the recent 9-day line closure, engineers will be working over three further weekends to replace track between Barnham and Havant including at several level crossings. These include Basin Road, Stockbridge Road, Brook Lane and Bosham.

The work will improve the reliability of rail services on the line and the reliability of the level crossings, reducing delays for rail passengers and motorists. We will also be taking the opportunity to carry out improvement work across the stations affected.

Updates to rail services

Rail passengers in West Sussex and Hampshire are advised to plan ahead and allow more time for their journeys, as we work to complete a multi-million pound upgrade of the lines between Barnham, Chichester and Havant.

On the following weekend dates the line between Barnham and Havant will be closed, meaning buses will replace trains between those stations on each date affected.

  • Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December

Throughout the work, trains to London will still run from Havant (to London Waterloo via South Western Railway) and Bognor (via Southern).

Work on the level crossings will result in some local road diversions or closures. Please allow more time for your journey.

We are running a passenger communications campaign targeting all travellers affected by the blockades. The campaign will ensure that passengers and business are fully aware of the closures, the impact on journeys, the alternative travel options available to them and the benefits the work will bring for the region. For further passenger information or to plan your journey please visit National Rail Enquiries’ website or Southern’s website.
