In Autumn 2019 we upgraded the railway between Barnham, Chichester and Havant
Following the 9-day line closure, engineers worked over three further weekends to replace track between Barnham and Havant including at several level crossings. These include Basin Road, Stockbridge Road, Brook Lane and Bosham.
The work will improve the reliability of rail services on the line and the reliability of the level crossings, reducing delays for rail passengers and motorists. We also took the opportunity to carry out improvement work across the stations affected.
Work completed between 26 October and 3 November 2019
- 2.3km of new track and conductor rail was installed between the Barnham and Bosham areas. This included tamping, ballast replacement, wet bed removal and vegetation clearance.
- Station improvements included platform and canopy repairs, tunnel repainting, deep-cleaning, repainting of station furniture and general maintenance at Barnham, Chichester, Fishbourne, Bosham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, Emsworth and Warblington.
- Level crossing upgrades included new barriers, LED lighting and track at Basin Road, Chichester, Stockbridge Road, Brook Lane FC and Bosham.
