We’re improving accessibility at Carshalton station as part of the Access for All programme

The £2.5m improvement will see two new lifts installed to provide obstacle free, accessible routes to the platforms for the first time at Carshalton.

This will make travel between the station entrance, ticket office and platforms much easier for customers with reduced mobility, as well as those with children, heavy luggage or shopping.

Please note that the other lift shaft from the subway will be located within the existing station building on platform two. This means there will be no external visual change to the Victorian station building.

Dates and times of work

Work began on 29 October 2018, with the project scheduled for completion in July 2019.

Most of our work will take place Monday to Friday during daytime hours (07:00 – 19:00) but there may be occasions where, due to the nature of the work, we have to work overnight or during weekends, when trains are not running.

We understand the effect our activities may have on the local community and we can assure you that our teams are briefed on working responsibly.

We will endeavour to keep any noise to an absolute minimum, though some disturbance may be unavoidable due to the nature of the work.

Closure of station car park

To facilitate this work and to maintain a safe barrier between our activities and the public, the western end of Station Approach will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Please note that all parking bays at the station will be suspended until the end of the project. A drop-off point with a turning circle will be maintained outside the main station entrance.

There is an alternative walking route to the station entrance which runs parallel to Station Approach, via Tyrell Court.

Impact on rail services

There will be no direct impact on rail services as a result of this project. Please continue to check before you travel by visiting Southern’s website, or the National Rail Enquiries' website.

The Access for All programme

Funding for this programme has been provided as part of the Department for Transport backed “Access for All” programme which aims to provide obstacle free, accessible routes to and between platforms. More than £300m has been secured to continue with the Access for All programme over the next five years.
