We will be carrying out extensive work to the railway between Bedford and Kettering as part of our Midland Main Line Upgrade Plan.
The work will see new sections of track built and work to structures to prepare for the line’s eventual electrification. A 13-week blockade from Saturday 24 March to Monday 18 June will see trains stopped from travelling on the slow lines to allow for work to track, drainage and embankments. There will also be work to remove vegetation from the side of the railway. Residents affected by the noise from these works will receive a notification letter prior to the works taking place.
During this time a reduced service will operate between Bedford and Leicester. Please check with your train operating company or online at National Rail enquiries before travelling.
During this time the following work will take place:
- Finedon Road Bridge, Wellingborough – The bridge will be reconstructed to allow for clearances for the overhead wires as part of work to electrify the line. From Thursday 22 March to Friday 28 September 2018. Finedon Road will close and a signed diversion will be place. Pedestrian access will remain open whilst the works are taking place.
- Irchester, Station Road Bridge – This bridge will also be reconstructed for electrification. Station Road will close from Monday 9 April to Thursday 22 November 2018. A signed diversion will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
- Wellingborough Viaduct – From Saturday 24 March to Sunday 17 June there will be excavation work, strengthening, demolition, redecking and raising the height of the parapets.
- Irchester Viaduct – From Saturday 24 March to Sunday 17 June there will be excavation work, in-fill and strengthening, bridge deck demolition/reconstruction, and work to raise the height of the parapets.
