We will be carrying out extensive work to the railway between Bedford and Kettering as part of our Midland Main Line Upgrade Plan.
The work will see new sections of track built and work to structures to prepare for the line’s eventual electrification. A 13-week blockade from Saturday 24 March to Monday 18 June saw trains stopped from travelling on the slow lines to allow for work to track, drainage and embankments. We also be worked to remove vegetation from the side of the railway.
During this time the following work will take place:
- Finedon Road Bridge, Wellingborough – The bridge will be reconstructed to allow for clearances for the overhead wires as part of work to electrify the line. From Thursday 22 March to Friday 28 September 2018. Finedon Road will close and a signed diversion will be place. Pedestrian access will remain open whilst the works are taking place.
- Irchester, Station Road Bridge – This bridge will also be reconstructed for electrification. Station Road will close from Monday 9 April to Thursday 2 November 2018. A signed diversion will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
- Wellingborough Viaduct – From Saturday 24 March to Sunday 17 June there was excavation work, strengthening, demolition, redecking and the height of the parapets was raised.
- Irchester Viaduct – From Saturday 24 March to Sunday 17 June we carried out excavation work, in-fill and strengthening, bridge deck demolition/reconstruction, and raised the height of the parapets.
