Overhead line renewals during the May bank holidays

We’re renewing overhead lines during the late May bank holiday – passengers are reminded to check journey plans before travelling.

Overhead lines power electric trains on the rail network.

  • From Saturday 26 to Monday 28 May we will be upgrading signalling and installing overhead line equipment on the 1.5 miles of track known as the Halton Curve in Liverpool which links the Chester/Warrington line and the Liverpool/Crewe line at Frodsham Junction. This will enable a new hourly service.
  • Work including overhead line work as part of the Polmadie and Rutherglen renewals project will take place in the Rutherglen and Polmadie area from Sunday 27 May until Monday 28 May.
  • Overhead line renewals will take place between London Liverpool Street and Ingatestone in Anglia between Saturday 26 to Monday 28 May. This work reduces the risk of summer speed restrictions and cancellations.
