On Friday 1 December the Office for Rail and Road (ORR) published the estimates of station usage for all stations in Britain in 2016-2017, with eight of the top 10 busiest stations managed by Network Rail (see graphic below).
The data also revealed seven Network Rail managed stations within the top 10 outside London: Birmingham New Street (1), Glasgow Central (2), Leeds (3), Manchester Piccadilly (4), Edinburgh Waverley (5), Reading (7) and Liverpool Lime Street (10).
We manage 18 stations across the network. Here are some of the highlights from our stations this past year.
We’ve been improving London Bridge station as part of the Thameslink Programme, which will help meet the huge rise in demand for train travel by providing spacious new trains every two to three minutes through central London at peak times helping us meet the huge rise in demand for train travel. The striking new-look station is ready to reopen on Tuesday 2 January 2018 after 10 days of major resignalling over the Christmas bank holiday, with the tracks around the station already completed.
