Network Rail is holding drop-in events this month to keep local communities informed of the changes being made to level crossings on the Norwich, Yarmouth and Lowestoft lines ahead of the re-signalling works planned for February.

During a phased programme of 23 days of works starting on 1 February 2020, Network Rail will be switching on a new, modern signalling system to replace the old Victorian mechanical signals which have been operating for over 100 years.

Six level crossings at Brundall, Cantley, Lingwood Chapel Road, Lingwood Station Road, Oulton Broad North and Strumpshaw will be upgraded to full barriers with remotely controlled CCTV. Victoria Road crossing on the East Suffolk line near to Oulton Broad South will also be upgraded as part of the project.

These works will require road closures or local management (to control the flow of traffic) to allow engineers to install the new barrier equipment. To ensure that communities have an opportunity to understand how we are going to upgrade the crossings, which roads will be affected and how to use the crossings safely once the works are complete, drop-in events have been planned at:

Ian Bradler, Director of Safety, Network Rail Anglia, said:

‘‘It’s important to us that everyone feels safe when crossing the railway. We want to provide residents with the opportunity to ask us about the work we’re doing and we can also explain how the new crossings will operate in future.”
