Network Rail has reopened the lines at Rotherham Central station this afternoon (Monday, 17 February) following severe flooding to the railway.

Train services resumed shortly after 16:00 following the completion of testing and repair work by Network Rail engineers. Teams from Network Rail have worked tirelessly to reopen the lines as quickly as possible. The work involved pumping water away from the railway, carrying out safety inspections, replacing damaged equipment and testing over 30 cables.

To keep passengers moving, bus replacement services were running between Meadowhall and Swinton. A full train service has now resumed, and we would like to thank passengers for their patience whilst the work was carried out.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North and East Route, said: “Storm Dennis brought heavy downpours to South Yorkshire over the weekend, which led to all the lines to and from Rotherham Central station being completely submerged by floodwater.

“Our teams have worked round the clock to clear floodwater and repair damage. All of this work is now complete, which has allowed train services to resume. We would like to thank passengers for their patience whilst this essential work was carried out.”
