Network Rail and train operators are warning passengers of severe disruption on several routes across the north of England this morning as heavy rain has caused severe flooding on the railway.

Train operators have issued warnings not to travel on a number of lines through Yorkshire, particularly in the Sheffield area, and between Hebden Bridge and Rochdale in the north west.

Disruption is expected to continue throughout the day. Passengers travelling on other routes may be affected by this disruption and are advised to check their journeys before travelling by visiting National Rail Enquiries or the website of their train operating company.

Track inspections will take place where possible and Network Rail is working closely with train operating companies to keep passengers moving.
