People from all backgrounds are being encouraged to think about a career on the railway at a special event at Manchester Piccadilly.

The recruitment drive is being held by Network Rail tomorrow (Wednesday 28 August) to showcase the varied and flexible roles on offer across the rail industry.

It’s all part of the ‘New Working You’ campaign by Network Rail to showcase its:

  • Family friendly policies
  • Varied working hours
  • Opportunities to grow
  • Rewarding roles

Current staff will be on hand to talk about their jobs in signalling, engineering, ecology, project management and many more.

One person who’s enjoying a career on the railway is Network Rail ecologist Emma from Bolton.

Emma said: “People probably don’t even realise the work we do to look after wildlife while running the railway. From rescuing fish to monitoring protected species, my job takes me all over the country to some stunning scenery.

“As a mum, Network Rail is also incredibly supportive of a good work-life balance, which has helped me to develop my career as well as having a family.”

Paula Reed, Network Rail human resources project leader, said: “We’re really looking forward to meeting passengers and people passing through Manchester Piccadilly who might never have thought about a career in the rail industry before.

“With so many different job opportunities and training, we hope to show how anyone can enjoy a successful and rewarding career at Network Rail.”

The recruitment fair is taking place on the concourse at Manchester Piccadilly station on Wednesday 28 November between 10am and 2pm.
