Explore the Network Rail archive online

It’s Explore Your Archive week, a national campaign showcasing the best of archives in the UK and Ireland.

If you’re interested in railway history, delve deep into our Corporate Archive online catalogue and you can discover drawings of classic infrastructure from across the network.

The Network Rail Corporate Archive manages and preserves a large collection of historical railway engineering drawings, as well as a modern business archive.

The Explore Your Archive campaign is coordinated by The National Archives and the Archives and Records Association.

Preserving our history – and present-day purpose

  • Our Corporate Archive has been accredited under the UK standard for archive services since 2013, and is part of a larger national records team.
  • Its operational focus means we can’t accommodate researchers at our National Records Centre in York, but we make as much of our history available to you as possible online.
  • The collection of engineering drawings in our archive represents the development of the most significant structures, engineers and innovation on the railway from the 19th century to the present day.

Explore the railway’s history – from eminent engineers to iconic infrastructure and more information on where to find railway records.
