Who you are

You’re a team player with great communication skills. You are commercially focused and will harness these skills in conjunction with your top class negotiations skills when liaising with stakeholders. You are able to work with a variety of different stakeholders. You may also have some experience of using Oracle and Bravo.

How long is the scheme?

20 months

Where you’ll be based

Primarily in Milton Keynes. However, there is scope for placements to take place across the country.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll carry out rotational placements in different commercial and procurement teams within one of our route teams. You’ll have the opportunity to work on important procurement projects. You could be agreeing and evaluating contracts against tender specifications. Negotiating with suppliers including pricing, contract and payment considerations. You will learn about the complete end to end procurement process and play an active role through each stage.

Entry requirements

2:2 in any degree subject.

What professional qualifications could you gain?

Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Level 4 gained.

What opportunities are available at the end of the scheme?

Graduates on the contracts and procurement route usually progress to roles such as; assistant procurement manager, procurement manager or commercial manager.

The contracts and procurement function is responsible for sourcing and purchasing all goods, works and services for Network Rail. You’ll learn how to source, procure and deliver to internal and external customers across England, Scotland and Wales.
