Who you are
You’re conscientious, highly motivated and customer-focused. With strong communication skills, you can adapt your approach to deal with different audiences in a polite and diligent manner. You can talk confidently while using your listening skills to maximise the support of your colleagues. A collaborative approach is essential. You have a sound understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation and an ability to define practical implementation arrangements.
How long is the scheme?
Where you’ll be based
Initially in Milton Keynes, but subsequent placements could be based in any of our route centres across Britain.
What you’ll be doing
You could be developing improved level crossing management arrangements, identifying new solutions to workforce safety risks, or helping the business to understand legal requirements and compliance. You’re likely to be involved in analysing data, prioritising risks, finding creative solutions and working collaboratively with managers, employees and trades unions.
You’ll also take part in site visits to observe, monitor and evaluate safety, using the knowledge gained to influence behaviours and practices. You’ll be the technical authority on your subject, sharing your expertise to support your business unit.
A 2:2 specialist degree in either health and safety or an environment/sustainability related discipline
What professional qualifications could you gain?
Graduate membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH), leading to Chartered status once qualified Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (MIEMA)
What opportunities are available at the end of the scheme?
Successful graduates can go on to attain senior health and safety leadership roles at route level.
