You may also be required to provide leadership to small project teams.
You’ll need to achieve a minimum of 2:2 in your degree.

Why you should choose this scheme
It’s a highly flexible scheme that enables you to drive your own learning. The scheme manager is responsible for setting up your first rotational placement, but thereafter it’s up to you. You choose which functions you’d like to experience and tailor your programme to suit your skills, strengths and interests. The scheme manager will also support you with continuous coaching through face-to-face meetings.
To help you gain a broader insight to our organisation, you can choose to spend one of your placements working in a function outside of IT.
Hear from our receent graduate:
Yusuf, Project manager
Network Rail is a large national company that can offer me career progression and multiple avenues of development and advancement. Furthermore, due to the massive impact it has on the day to day life of commuters, it is exciting to work for a company that affects so many people and is a household name.Philip-James Ponniah
Working for Network Rail has given me an opportunity to work in a progressive environment and to participate in large projects such as freedom of information and enterprise content management.
How would you describe the breadth of Network Rail's work and the breadth of our opportunities for graduates?
The breadth of work and opportunities for a graduate is significant. Network Rail is a large company with multiple functions and departments. Opportunities to work within your own area or other areas of the business are regularly available. You are also able to search for your own opportunities and, in doing so, many more doors open for you.
How varied have you found your role at Network Rail?
I have had multiple roles within Network Rail since joining 10 months ago, from supporting leadership to working as a business analyst and a project manager. All have offered varied challenges and opportunities to develop different skill sets. With the time I have left on the graduate scheme I intend to take advantage of being able to experience different roles in other parts of the business to gain a better understanding of what drives the business as a whole.
What's the most exciting work you've done here?
I was given the opportunity to work with the Strategic Crisis Management Team. From this experience I was able to see Network Rail from the top down and gain an understanding of how all the functions work together in order to achieve Network Rail’s overarching goals. It was exciting to be involved at the forefront of activities that were impacting the business.
What's been the best thing for you?
The best thing about the graduate scheme for me is the opportunities to develop my existing skills and acquire new ones. You are given opportunities to go on courses and gain certifications to assist you in your professional career. You will also find that the people around you are willing to assist you and help develop your knowledge, understanding and skills. This is supported by the fact Network Rail has a strong culture for developing and nurturing its young professionals.
