Cannon Street station – changes to exits on 28 February 2012 for Olympic testing

If you use London Cannon Street station during the morning of Tuesday 28 February 2012, you will be asked to use exits on both sides of the concourse to test how the station will cope with large volumes of people during the Olympics later this summer.

Temporary change

The change is temporary and runs from 06:00 until 09:30 during which time you'll be asked to use the exits on either side of the station concourse to avoid crossing the concourse.

During the London 2012 Games almost all of the 11 million spectators are expected to use public transport – 80% of whom will choose rail. This will be in addition to normal use.

One of a series of events

London’s integrated transport network is well equipped to cope but at certain times in certain places it will be very busy so this exercise is one of a series of events to test how our stations will manage the large volumes of people.

At Cannon Street station there will be a significant contra flow in the morning peak during the Games with commuters coming into London, and spectators heading to events at Greenwich. The challenge is to avoid the long queues which would be caused if the flow of commuters getting off trains prevented spectators getting on them.
