We're not just improving train services and easing congestion, we're also improving the station to give a better experience for passengers.
Strategic transport hub
Peterborough is served by a complex mix of local commuter and long-distance train services covering all points of the compass. Its proximity to London as well as its centrality to serving such a mix means rail is not just vital to Peterborough, but to the growth in the overall demand for rail.
More seats
Installing two new platforms to the west side of the station, and lengthening platforms 2, 3, 4 and 5 will accommodate additional and longer 12-carriage trains.
Better services
The work will mean improved train services, with more trains to different destinations, and shorter journey times. The work will also support the predicted 100% growth in demand for services to London over the next 25 years.
Longer freight trains
We're increasing the feight capacity between Felixstowe, the Midlands and beyond, and the new track layout to the west of the station will allow for longer freight trains.
Improving the station facilities
The £43m improvements at Peterborough station will see the addition of a new station building, and all platforms easily accessible via new footbridges and lifts.
