Improving access at Huntingdon station

We've installed a footbridge at Huntingdon station as the first stage in a £3m scheme to make the station more accessible.

The project which is funded under the Government's Access for All programme will also deliver two new passenger lifts giving step-free access between the station entrance and the platforms for the first time

The old footbridge deck was removed over the weekend of 11 March 2012, and the new lifts will come into use later this summer in July 2012.

Significant investment in our stations

Phil Verster, our route managing director for London North Eastern said: “Thousands of people living and working in Huntingdon rely on the railway every day. The new step-free route around the station will make it much easier for everyone to use the train, especially those with reduced mobility or with small children. We are making a significant investment in our stations so they better meet the ever changing needs of passengers.”

Ian Duncan Santiago, First Capital Connect's project director, said: "This £3m investment at Huntingdon station is fantastic news for First Capital Connect's customers. We will be working closely with Network Rail to ensure passengers face as little disruption as possible while the remains of the old footbridge are dismantled."

Access for All

Access for All is a £370m fund for station accessibility. Station selection and prioritisation is made by the Department for Transport. To date, the DfT has selected 153 stations in England, Wales and Scotland to receive step-free access improvements.
