  • Greater Lincolnshire railway upgrade

  •
  • Greater Lincolnshire’s rail network is benefiting from around £100 million investment towards a wide-ranging programme of improvements. The work involves upgrading level crossings, stations and bridges, replacing track and updating 60 miles of signalling between Immingham, Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes.

A quarter of the UK’s railfreight traffic passes through the Port of Immingham every year. The Greater Lincolnshire upgrade project will provide opportunities for more freight and passenger rail services, growing the local and national economy.

Work has been ongoing during nights and weekends to reduce disruption, and there’s a single, 17-day closure of the railway over Christmas 2015. To carry out the improvements quickly and smoothly, road closures will be necessary – see our road closures timetable.
