Network Rail
We own and have responsibility for the management of the national rail infrastructure. Our principal activities are the operation, maintenance, renewal, and, in co-operation with train operators and funders, the development and enhancement of the national rail network.
Our governance
We are a not-for-dividend company, so all of our profits are reinvested in the railway. We are regulated by the Office of Rail Regulation, the economic and safety regulator for the railway.
We also have around 95 Members, who perform a role similar to that of a shareholder in a PLC. 22 new members were announced in October 2010. They hold the Board to account for its management of the company, monitor their standards of corporate governance, review the overall performance (including safety) against the operational and financial business plans that we publish as well as against railway industry benchmarks. This role is based around monitoring rather than being involved in day-to-day management
Our values
Our values are determination (to improve the rail service), respect (for the environment, our communities and our people), teamwork (we are all part of the same team) and pride (in a job well done).
More information on our performance and goals can be found in our Annual report and Accounts at www.networkrail.co.uk
