What's in it for you?
If you’d like to find out what it’s like to work for Network Rail before you graduate then our summer or year in industry placements are an ideal starting point. Not for the faint-hearted, you’ll experience the scope, scale and variety of our work with several challenges and projects packed into a short-term period. And, if you do well on your placement you could even walk away with an offer to come back and join us on one of our graduate schemes once you’ve finished university.
Our year in industry placement schemes are designed for students who are still currently studying towards their degree and need to spend a year in industry as part of their course. Candidates who have already graduated or are due to graduate before the start of the scheme are not eligible for these schemes and should consider applying for one of our graduate schemes instead.
Candidates studying on a Tier 4 visa will need to provide a letter from their education sponsor (University) addressed to Network Rail to confirm that the year in industry placement forms an integral and assessed part of your course and will not breach your tier 4 work placement restrictions. The letter should also include the terms and conditions of the work placement, including the work that you will be expected to carry out during the work placement and how you will be assessed. Please ensure you speak with your education sponsor to determine if you can obtain this letter from them before you start your application for any of the year in industry placement schemes.
Having attained a 2:2 or above at the end of your first year, you should be on course for at least a 2:2 overall.
Join our year in industry placement scheme in IT & business services and you could be implementing cutting-edge, innovative technologies and applications like digital railway traffic management and accident prevention, or playing a leading role in the delivery of a significant business change initiative.
A Network Rail career in finance puts you at the heart of our budgets, strategy and planning. As a placement student you could be appointed as an assistant management accountant or an assistant financial accountant.
Working in partnership with key stakeholders, you’ll help us to move more freight away from Britain’s roads, reduce carbon emissions and improve quality of life.
This is your opportunity to gain valuable experience of working on key engineering projects and really make your mark at Network Rail, in either civil, electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering.
Network Rail is among the largest users of energy nationally so the opportunity to make an impact is huge. This is your chance to play a part in developing solutions to some of the country’s most important issues.
A short-term placement offers a unique opportunity to experience many parts of the business, and make a contribution from day one.
